Archaeological survey in Vĩnh Lộc district, Thanh Hóa province

Abstract

Based on archaeological researches conducted in the ancient Vĩnh Ninh district (now Vĩnh Lộc), the author focused on survey in sites with archaeological materials in Vĩnh Long, Vĩnh Phúc, Vĩnh Thành and Vĩnh Ninh communes. The survey result at the above 5 locations discovered architectural materials such as bricks, tiles and architectural decorations; glazed ceramics such as bowls, plates with white, brown glaze, and celadon; stoneware such as cans, vases, jars, basins/pots... Based on the materials, types, and decorative patterns, it shows that artifact mainly date from the Trần - Hồ period and a few date back to the early Lê and Lê Trung hưng periods. Some archaeological sites discovered in Vĩnh Lộc district will add materials for research on the history of the land and especially contribute to the research of archaeological traces associated with the Hồ Dynasty Citadel Heritage.
